Ideas for pots

I love this bowl made out of blown glass. Its a shell.

These are great and look like baskets

I love this one as an idea for a cake stand. I would perhaps choose a different holder - like an elephant with more legs and its trunk up.

Gecko Teapot

Large Urn

The making of a large urn by handbuilding and wheelwork at Sydney Uni Ceramics Dungeon.

Drying out with a blowtorch for stability

Throwing the top

Sanding the ribs of the pot and adding handles
The final pot. Note the naked clay lady giving birth.

Final piece glazed with... a thousand glazes!

My next Dali sculpture

Im going to try to make a very light (hollow) elephant with a little candle holder on top and spindle legs that have to be joined after firing - with Araldite of course. I love the idea of having a dainty elephant sculpture in my house.

New Wheel

I decided it was time to get myself the wheel I have been wanting for years. Venco Direct Drive Wheel - with standup kit so I can make large pots again!

Coral Bowl

This is a simple form made by placing the straight edge of a wooden rib on the near vertical edge of a nice large sized bowl, and angling a flat plane to the width you desire.

The glazing is the special part. I used a cerulean blue with an overcoat of a translucent pearl that is known to run a bit so it merged together to form an appearance that resembles the look of coral through glistening ocean from a plane.

Man who tears open the world

I made this sculpture thinking about the kind of man I want to meet.  I had inspiration from Salvador Dali's painting "Geopoliticus Child watching the Birth of the New Man". You see and read more about the painting on another website.

I made the sculpture by throwing two identical ovate pots and joining them together. I then made the man and cut a crack in the 'egg' to have him break out. I rolled a very thin porcelain sheet for the plate it sits on and used an upturned bowl as the pedestal.

Marbled Vase

This vase was made with marbled clay.
I first threw the body of it on the wheel and then sliced very thin pieces of the marbled clay to place onto the surface like a mosaic. I then used a wooden rib with warm water to lightly firm the marbled pieces together and onto the surface of the form with the wheel running. This creates a grey slurry coating due to the mixing of the marbled colours.
To remedy this, I used the blow torch to dry the surface of the form and then I used a metal rib to scour the top 1mm of the surface to remove the grey and expose the beautiful marbling.

Origin of the Universe

The Big Bang

Top of the Big Bang (photo of it hanging to come) I have to hang it for my HSC exams in a gallery with a black wall. It is 2 metres long!

Galaxies formed as the universe expanded.

Stars exploded.
Star exploding with quote from Nietzsche's 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra':
"One must still have chaos inside to give birth to a dancing star"

The Milky Way, our Galaxy, formed.
